1XI Match Report vs Lymm at Home:
1XI were looking to carry on their winning start to the season as we faced a tricky Lymm side at home. It felt like both captains wanted to lose the toss and it was Lymm that won it, choosing to bowl first. Langley fell in the 5th over to Spaven for 2. Halsall, aiming to rebuild with Power, was removed by a full toss after hitting the previous ball for 6 from Chatterjee for 19. Ollier looked promising with a quick 17 but was then dismissed by Spaven. Nomaan Hasan quickly followed, out for 0, leaving the Vale at 56-4 with Tom Robinson joining captain Power in the middle. Unfortunately, Power's resilience was thwarted as Atwell removed him for 17. Robinson looked good for his 15 but was removed, leaving Vale at 76-6.
Max Lloyd and Steve Bottomley put on a solid partnership but Bottomley was then removed for 14 and Lloyd soon followed after a commendable 20. Tom Ollier came and went for a golden duck and Pete Phillips was dismissed for 3 as Lymm bowled the Vale out for 113 off 41.2 overs.
After tea, despite our poor batting performance, some were happy as Man Utd had just scored their second goal as we were coming out to field. Vale knew if they could get Lymm's overseas player Atwell early, they'd have a real shot at winning the game. The start was less than ideal as Atwell hit Tom Ollier's first over for 17. Nigel Halsall tried to regain control but failed, and Atwell found it easy going. It took a change in bowlers for Vale to get the first breakthrough as Jack Halsall removed Cross for 1. Max Lloyd quickly bowled Andy Brown for 1, and Halsall was on a roll, taking wickets of Roberts for 11, Nanda for 11, and opener Atwell for a well-played 57, putting the game back in the balance.
Even though Halsall secured three more wickets, finishing with impressive figures of 7-14 off 7 overs, it wasn’t meant to be for the Vale. Rich Parkinson got the winning runs for Lymm as they won by 2 wickets.
2XI Match Report vs Glazebury Away:
Our 2XI were looking to carry on their unbeaten start to the season after an exciting draw last week. Glazebury won the toss and chose to bowl first. Ian Johnson and Vishal Gupta opened the batting for the Vale, and what a day it was for both, especially Johnson, who scored 72 runs while Gupta contributed 36. Williamson added 20 and Rana Dey chipped in with an unbeaten 29, leading Vale to a brilliant 183/3 off their 40 overs.
After tea, Dinkar Trivedi made an immediate impact by taking the early wickets of Short and Puthanvitle and also running out Kumar SA, leaving Glazebury quickly three down. Vallabhaneni looked promising with 27 until Mathai got him out, caught by Dey. Mathew Mathai secured one more wicket, finishing with figures of 2-22 off 10 overs. Arthur Wilson also contributed, taking the wickets of Boggula and Gadhiraju, and matched Mathai's figures of 2-22 off 10 overs. Captain Graeme Stacey wrapped up the game for the Vale by dismissing Guru and Nagisetty, as Glazebury finished with 97-9 off their 40 overs. Vale maintained their unbeaten start to the season, winning by 86 runs.
