Another sunny day at Vale, another much changed second team.
Vale were put in to bat on a beautiful batting wicket. Mike Drape and Pete Williamson opened and put on 28 before Mike was adjudged caught behind off Hull for 11. Matt Jones struck a 4 before being stumped off Tammam and Pete followed soon after chipped a catch off Raj for 16 leaving Vale 33-3. Captain Johnson joined new boy Nick Barker and pushed the score to 54 before Iain was caught behind for 3. Max Lloyd 0, Neil Mitchell 2 and Joe Greening 0, were all dismissed by Tammam leaving Vale 66-7 before Tom Greening gave Nick some crucial support. At 110 Tom was unlucky to tread on his wicket off Hull for 2 before Nick's great knock came to an end for 80 leaving Vale 129-9. With Bill Crowson absent, the innings was closed.
Max and Neil opened the bowling and soon Neil bowled Khalid for 9. He also had Eyre caught and bowled for 3 and Max bowled Manish for 1. Nick then bowled Newman for 3 and Tammam for 5. At 95 for 5 In the last over before drinks Nick bowled Sunil for 14 and had Tildesley caught by Matt for 0. However Mike had to depart leaving Vale with 9 fielders and Raj 19 not out joined opener Taylor 67 not out to knock the last 35 runs. A super effort in the field by the Greening boys, Joe on debut.
Overall, a great effort with Matt named man of the match for bringing Nick! Nick 4-35, Neil 2-33 , Max 1-16.
