1XI:
Bowdon Vale's recent match against Chester County Officers was a closely contested encounter, with Vale narrowly losing by 32 runs. Winning the toss and electing to bowl first, Vale got off to a good start as Nigel Halsall picked up the early breakthrough of Hendrick. Tom Ollier then deservedly got the wicket of Downman, putting Vale in a strong position early on.
However, County Officers captain Hebaiter then formed a solid partnership with Tom Stevens, frustrating Vale's bowlers until Stevens was caught behind by Tom Robinson off the bowling of Jack Halsall. Hebaiter continued to play well, reaching his half-century and holding the innings together for County Officers.
Vale continued to attack, trying to keep the score in check as the game hung in the balance with County Officers at 121-4. Jack Halsall then got the important wicket of Hebaiter for a well-played 73, helping to restrict the visitors to a total of 166 all out.
After tea, Vale's openers, Captain Power and Langley, were tasked with getting their side off to a good start. Unfortunately, Langley fell playing a poor shot in the fifth over, followed by Power, who was run out brilliantly. Vale then suffered a collapse, falling to 8-3 as last season's player of the year, Jack Halsall, was dismissed cheaply.
Jack Ryan and John Ollier then formed a promising partnership, but Ryan fell for 12, bringing Robinson to the crease. Robinson played some wonderful shots, giving Vale a glimmer of hope at 83-4. However, Ollier was adjudged lbw by Akbar for a well-played 35, and Vale lost quick wickets with Power, Phillips, and Tom Ollier falling in succession.
Robinson continued to play some lovely shots, reaching a well-deserved fifty, but unfortunately, he was left with little support as Vale slumped to 121-9. Nigel Halsall was the last batter for Vale, but they were eventually bowled out for 134, losing the game by 32 runs.
Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives for Vale to take from the game, as they showed resilience and fight when faced with a difficult situation. It was a good effort by the team, and they can be proud of their performance, knowing that they would have crumbled in similar situations in previous years.
2XI:
The 2XI got all the points as hosts Appleton conceded due to them not having a ground to play at.
